Avitar Clerk Software News & Notes...
We at Avitar recognize the challenges Town Clerks face every day and we hope to lessen the burden
by communicating with you more frequently. Most of the users who have attended our Software User
Groups have gained from the experience simply by sharing with their peers. One of our goals in
this program is to facilitate the communication of valuable information to all Avitar Clerk Clients.

Software Updates
New Hampshire Assessing The latest update (Version 3.3.1) was distributed in
late July; please let us know if
you have not received it. In addition to the latest version of the MS-1 Report and new categories of exemptions and credits, the update included
several important changes to make the program easier to use. Most notable of these usability features is the tool-tips
available when drawing or editing sketches that more clearly indicates the length of the segment and/or size of the current
sub area.
The update also included completely revised and updated on-line help documentation. Over the years, the existing
documentation had been nipped and tucked in various places as we added new features to the program to such an extent
that it had begun to resemble a Hollywood starlet well past her prime. The latest version has been given a complete
face-lift so we invite you, especially if you are new to the system, to revisit the documentation. If you are more
comfortable with the printed page, the revised manual will soon be available in PDF format. Contact us to obtain a
copy that can be easily printed.
Tax Collect We have recently started work on the next update for the Tax Collect application. We expect to have this update ready for
distribution at the end of September or early October. This update will contain a number of modifications requested by
users, in addition to a few changes to the information displayed on the MS-61 Report.
Those of you that will be attending the annual Tax Collectors’ Conference in September at Attitash should plan to go
to the session for users of the Avitar Tax Collect system. The topic of this year’s session, as selected by the Tax
Collectors’ Association, is “A Day in the Life of a Tax Collector.” Patty will be reviewing everything you should know,
but may have forgotten, in order to use the software on a daily basis.
Clerk/Motor Vehicle We successfully completed our latest round of State certification in June and have begun deploying the newest release in
our MAAP towns as their new laser printers are delivered. If you have your new laser printers and we have not contacted
you, please let us know and we will coordinate the update. We are converting towns as soon as possible, but, as many of
you are aware, the roll-out of the printers by the State’s contractor has been a bit unpredictable.
Those of you that use the Clerk program with the DMV browser module, as opposed to the MAAP module,
can expect to receive this same update in mid September.
Building Permit We have a few items we plan to include in the next update, anticipated for November/December.
These items include exploring the possibility of maintaining multiple copies of water/septic
information on an individual parcel and new formats for printing inspection information to make
it easier for use in the field. Beyond this, we will be soliciting additional ideas for new features
at the next user group meeting. Please consult the user group schedule and try to attend.
Utility Billing We have finalized the update for the Utility Billing and are distributing it concurrently with this newsletter.
Those of you that are avid readers of this newsletter will note that this has been promised before, but this
time we mean it. We had a number of problems building an update that cooperated with the components necessary
for integration with the hand held meter reader device, but these issues have been resolved. If you have requests
for future enhancements to the Utility Billing program, we invite you to contact us, and we appreciate your patience
on receiving this latest update.
Old Vector Keyboard Sketch
If you are still on the old keyboard sketch, you should convert/update to the mouse sketch prior to the end of the year.
Software support on the assessing software version with the old sketch system will be 20% higher than the new sketch
version for 2009, clerical cost for us to do data entry work for you on the old sketch will be $55/hour in 2009, as well.
We are now 5 years into the new sketch system and very few of us know the old system well.
